Music at St James' Church

Music plays an important part in the life of St James' Church.  The choir sings at the 9.30 am service and at evensong each Sunday and rehearses on Tuesday evenings.  The Music Group plays at the 11.00 am service.  New singers or instrumentalists, of all ages, are always welcome to join us. The Director of Music is Richard Stephens.

The organ has 24 speaking stops, spread over 2 manuals and pedals, with a detached stopkey console. It was built in 1987 by Sebastian Meakin, based on an earlier instrument by Brindley & Foster. We have recently replaced the console, which was sixty years old with a new digital version.

St James' is a popular venue for musical events. The Chipping Campden Music Festival is based here, and a varied programme of music from orchestral concerts to chamber recitals takes place each year. An annual 'Come and Sing' day attracts singers from a wide area to rehearse and perform major choral works with orchestra.
